SLH was created in 1991 and resulted from a merger between 'Prestige Hotels Europe and Small Luxury Hotels & Resorts of North America'. The two groups boast more than 30 years experience in hotel marketing.

SLH seeks to represent the collective interests of luxury, independent and exceptional hotels around the world. The Group focuses on enabling its member hotels to benefit from the economies of scale that only large international hotel groups can offer whilst, at the same time, guaranteeing their independence and individuality.

In 1995, SLH merged with 'The Asian and Properties of Select Hotels and Resorts International', thereby creating a global chain adding marketing and a central reservations system to its service portfolio.

In 1997, the chain had some 230 hotels in 30 countries. By 2002 their number had increased to 290 hotels in 50 countries.

With more than 500 properties, Châteaux & Hôtels de France represents "contemporary inn-keepers" who love to share the most intimate secrets of their country.

For five years now Châteaux & Hôtels de France has endeavoured to promote simple, sincere and authentic cuisine. It has been very successful in attracting numerous talented young chefs who have already established a reputation for themselves.
